What I mean is, Holy Grail feels more like Monty Python. Whereas Life of Brian is more like a film made by the Pythons and starring them. Holy Grail to me is more of a “Monty Python film” So, I think the nod must go to Monty Python and the Holy Grail, as the winner.
LOB was supposed to all be happening in the time of Jesus, and the alien thing is just a bit too.alien.
(The killing of the historian, for example.) We see early on indications that Grail is occurring in OUR time, not medieval times. You can imagine a bunch of cosplayers and SCA members just itching to be in that final scene, and then it's a giant let down, when the Python gang gets pinched. It's funny.īut, the similar treatment of the knights in Grail when the police round them up doesn't feel as off, because, after all, all the horses are just people with coconuts. But, it shifted the tone of the film away from the more salient retelling of Christ. It was some kind of homage, I guess, to Star Wars or something. It's so out of left field, weird and added very little to the plot. Let me explain the one scene that really cements the winner: The Aliens in LOB.
